Silicone Application
Silicone Oil
Made of quartz, silicone oil is a colorless, transparent
and odorless liquid and has a range of viscosities from low to high for specific
uses.
Thanks to its excellent resistance to heat, cold and corrosion, it maintains a constant
viscosity throughout temperature changes.
Silicone oil is widely used in the machinery, electronics,
chemical, textile, paper, construction, civil engineering, and cosmetics
industries,
and particularly, for lubricants, electrical insulating oils, thermal
oils, glazing agents, anti-foaming agents, fabric softeners, water repellents, and
cosmetic additives.
General Types
There are three types of silicone oil: non-reactive silicone oil, dual end type reactive silicone oil, and single end type reactive silicone oil.
Manufacturing Processes
Silicone oil is made through the following three processes and figures:
-
Hydrolysis and neutralization process of methyl chloride silane
-
Equilibration and viscosity stabilization process of siloxane using catalysts
-
Process of removing volatile components and commercialization
Without the equilibration process during the overall reaction, the desired viscosity of the oil cannot be obtained.
There is a slight difference in concept between the equilibration process and the synthesis process.
In general, the equilibration refers to a polymerization process by mixing silicone oil and hexamethyl disiloxane as a chain stopper and using an acid or alkali catalyst.
